PROJECT TYPE: 
CHP on-site generation that uses methane biogas generated by the customer’s wastewater facility in exchange for thermal energy and excess gas.

LOCATION: 
Sumter, South Carolina

RENEWABLE ENERGY CREDITS:
Methane from the digester, previously flared to the atmosphere, is recovered and utilized in the CHP facility. Up to 30,000 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from generation of the renewable electric and thermal energy are delivered to Duke Energy annually. This helps Duke Energy comply with the State of NC Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard requiring state utilities to source 12.5% of their generation from renewable resources by 2021.

OPERATIONAL COMPLETION: 
The facility has been operational since July 2015. BME performs the Operations and Maintenance for the plant.
